转笔被分类为一个xhandgame运动的分支。这运动的世界发展中,同类项目还有悠悠球、蝴蝶刀、zippo、XCM、堆积运动等。它普及程度的快速增长很可能是源于它的方便,因为只要有一支笔,不管什么地方都可以转笔。世界上很多地方的学生都爱好转笔。
